Hilary Duff had a hunch hockey player, Mike Comrie, might propose to her.
"We had talked about it," she says on the Ellen DeGeneres Show Friday. "I thought maybe it would happen this summer."
But when he popped the question in February during a Hawaiian vacation after nearly three years of dating, "I was pretty taken off guard," the singer, 22, says.
"My girlfriend was like, 'You guys are going to Maui; he's going to propose for sure!'" she says. "And, I'm like, 'No way.' I was surprised. It was really nice."
How did he do it?
During their Maui vacation, "he went to go get us a glass of wine because we were going to watch the sun go down and he called my mom like a half-hour before … so there would be no way of it slipping out. We're really close, so I'm sure it would have been hard to keep that secret."
He then got down on one knee and asked if she'd wed him.
